WIC (Windows Imaging Component) is a Windows API that provides
access to fast Windows methods for loading and saving images.
WIC is used by Advanced TIFF Editor (Advanced TIFF Editor Plus)
to support HDP, DDS, HEIF and WebP. It can optionally be used to
load other formats such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, etc.
To support some WIC formats (such as HEIF and WebP) you will need
to install a codec from the Microsoft Store.

HEIF/HEIC loading is supported if the Windows drivers are
available on the system.
Generally you need to install "HEVC Video Extensions from the
Device Manufacturer":

And on older systems you may also need "HEIF Image Extensions":

Both are free on the Microsoft Store.
